Our holistic system approach is informed by psychoacoustics and engineered by experts.
We understand the vital importance that each change you make to one part of a system affects the whole, whether it be the mechanical design, electronics, drive units, or DSP technologies.
This approach underpins every decision made, every technology conceived and every element designed.
Psychoacoustics
Psychoacoustics has underpinned our delivery of sound for over 40 years and we always place the listener at the heart of the performance.
We have a deep understanding of how humans hear and process sound. This informs every element of the Meridian system design, from speaker positioning and specification, to tuning and DSP implementation.
Psychoacoustics is an interdisciplinary field of many areas, including psychology, acoustics, electronic engineering, physics, biology, physiology, and computer science.
It is the study of sound perception and audiology - how humans perceive various sounds and in particular, speech and music.
Therefore it is vital to take into account not just the mechanics of the environment, but also the fact that both the ear and the brain are involved in a person's listening experience.
System Design
With audio system design we always take a human centric approach.
Instead of seeing components of a system as separate entities, Meridian’s system approach ensures that all elements of the system work seamlessly together as one.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
At Meridian we are masters of DSP. We adopted this approach over 25 years ago and have been perfecting it ever since.
DSP provides the foundation to every Meridian loudspeaker and technology. It underpins the accurate reproduction of the audio signal offering extreme control and adaptability.
Even with high-quality conventional analogue circuitry, unwanted noise and degradation to sound quality are inevitable. By digitally processing audio signals instead, they are able to retain absolute precision, resulting in a sound that is natural, three-dimensional and remarkably easy to listen to.
Capturing the performance
Since our inception, we have been dedicated to perfecting the path between the original performance and the sound that emerges from a loudspeaker.
